Elmwood Ave. features rain gardens and permeable paving sites in between Forest and Bird as part of the overall CSO 60 pilot projects completed in 2012. Storm-water runoff from the road and sidewalk area enters the rain gardens from inlets where water is then able to infiltrate down into a sandy soil mix and be used by plants. Permeable pavers also allow water to infiltrate in gaps in between individual pavers.
