Rain Check is proud to offer a downspout disconnection program that is FREE for city property owners.
PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY CLOSED. CHECK BACK LATER.
The Downspout Disconnect program involves removing the connection from residential gutters to the sewer system. In this program, water is diverted to a rain barrel or out into the yard. The Buffalo Sewer Authority in collaboration with Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper inspects residential sites to determine if a rain barrel is appropriate and provides and installs a large capacity rain barrel on-site at no charge to the homeowner.
Since the project began in 2015, over 400 rain barrels have been installed throughout Buffalo, giving an overall capacity of over 50,000 gallons! Using the water in these barrels regularly ensures room for the next rain which increases the total number of gallons kept out of the sewer system when calculated over a year.
